The
"Nutshell" Version
 .

In spite of hundreds of thousands of dollars being expended, the VHF "digital" communications system installed by Pro Comm Inc. for Isabella County has failed miserably, twice.  First for the law enforcement community and, currently, it has failed for the fire & medical first responder agencies.

Why am I so angry about this?
The older "analog" system had been working well for the Nottawa-Sherman Fire Department right up to the day it was disconnected by Pro Comm Inc.  Now, with a much less reliable and far more confusing communications system, our firefighters/first responders and the people we serve are at greater risk for being harmed.

What's next?

Several townships, in an effort to correct the dangerous communications problems created by Isabella County are  purchasing horrendously expensive 800 MHz radio equipment so their firefighters can communicate via the 800 MHz radio system operated by the State of Michigan.  However, the new system is not without it's own set of problems.  Firefighters now have to carry radios that will access 3 different radio systems (digital VHF, digital UHF & analog VHF) and their cell phones to minimize the chance of communications failure with Isabella County Central Dispatch, the ambulance service and other First Responders.
